Are you looking to get more people to like your content on social media and share it with their friends? Then it’s time to go right back to basics and to remember why people use social media in the first place.
Be it Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or Facebook; social media is nothing but a platform for communication.
Communication is inherently about expression.
Think of it as the normal verbal communication. Nobody would ever waste his time listening to you if what you are saying does not make sense or interest them.
Social media works the same way.
Why do people share?
When the majority of us communicate, we mostly express something about ourselves; our views, feelings, or personality with the hope that our listeners will relate to whatever we are saying or at least tolerate it.
Our Facebook profiles and pages are more or less like our living rooms; we decorate them with things that say more about us. Be it our taste of style, color, and interests. Similarly, our social media profiles are filled with content that says more about our beliefs, hobbies, and interests.
In other words, we express ourselves through our social media profiles.
For example:
If you post an article about the health benefits of martial arts, who do you think will be more likely to share this content? Martial artists of course! By sharing, they intend to show other people that they agree with what the article is saying and want to be associated with it.
If you share something about home insurance, people will share it with their friends who just bought a new house or with whom they think will benefit.
So, the point is:
Your social media account is an extension of your interests and what you share on social media. Your shares create an impression about what you are or in other words, what you want your audience to think about you or your business.
See the pattern here? Sharing content is one way to portray your personality or message.
Remember the last time you shared something with your friends? Why did you share with them? It is because you thought about that person or you think that they might like the content.
So, there are times when you are not expressing yourself, but sharing contents you think which will suit someone else.
Therefore, if you want to get more likes and shares for your content, you need to ensure that it gets to the eyes of the people who share similar thoughts or beliefs.
You need to focus and improve your audience targeting.
That is all for today, will see you in another post.
Enjoy your week-end.
